A food desert is defined as an area where residents do not have easy access to, and lack sufficient economic resources to obtain, healthy and nutritious food options. The food deserts shown in this dataset are the result of an analysis conducted by the Center for a Livable Future, in collaboration with the Baltimore City Planning Department. The food deserts in this dataset were created using the following data layers: 2010 household income, vehicle availability, distance to supermarkets, and healthy food availability index scores.
